*Week 5

Small Groups

Monday: We worked on creating patterns. The children were given examples and asked to finish the pattern. Once the children started to get the hang of patterns they were able to create their own pattern. The children did a very good job!

Tuesday: The children worked on sorting different kinds of vehicles. They were given a pile of vehicles that had cars, buses, fire trucks, cars, helicopters, and airplanes. They also came in different colors of red, blue, green, orange, yellow, and purple. The children were also given sorting trays to use. The children were then shown what sorting is and sorted the items first by color, then by type of vehicle.

Wednesday: The children got to work on a variety of puzzles. Some were easy and some were a little harder. They all did a great job working on all of the puzzles.

Thursday: We created pages to a book! It will be our “Name Book”. Each child was given a piece of paper with the first letter of their name at the top and their name at the bottom. They were then encouraged to write their name or their first initial all of the page.

Friday: The children got to practice with their name file folders. In the file folder they have to spell their name, trace their name with their finger, match letters in their name, then finally write their name. After practicing this during a Small Group, it will become a daily activity.

Large Group

Monday: We danced to the song “Hokey Pokey”. It helps the children follow directions and listen to what they are suppose to do.

Tuesday: We danced to the song “Tooty Ta”. This song also works on following directions. There are certain moves that go with the song to get the children moving.

Wednesday: We read the book “Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen”. In the beginning of the story Howard, a rabbit, is not listening to the teacher or following directions. He often gets hurt or is hurting his peers on accident. He soon realizes what is happening. The next day he goes to school and does a great job!

Thursday: We worked on positional words, such as beside, next to, above, under, behind, and in front of. I made it into a Simon Says activity and the children did a great job.

Friday: We danced to “Choosy Gallop”. This song focus on getting children to gallop which is developmental for all children. Children learn to gallop before they skip. After we galloped around we danced to the song “Cowboy Dance”. This song has the children pretend to ride a horse then have a lasso in the air.
