Information About Upcoming Lessons for

LPS Preschool’s Personal Safety Curriculum

Called “Talking About Touching”

Dear Preschool Family,

Soon our class will begin the second half of our Personal Safety Curriculum, called “Talking About Touching.” This program teaches children skills that will help them keep safe from dangerous or abusive situations. Children will also learn how to ask for help when they need it.

At the beginning of the year we had safety lessons on; Riding in Cars, Traffic, Fire, Guns, Getting Found, and Asking First. Soon we will have safety lessons about things like; The Touching Rule, Safe Touches, Unsafe Touches, Unwanted Touches, and a basic drug and alcohol/poisons lesson about “Safe” and “Unsafe Things” to put in their Bodies.

You will, be receiving a series of letters that provide information about how you can help your child learn and practice these safety rules taught in the classroom lessons. Children learn more about safety, and are more likely to follow safety rules, when they have multiple opportunities to practice and talk about safety with their family. I’d like to encourage you to help your child learn and practice safety rules.

You are welcome to borrow a video/DVD (In Spanish and English) that was produced for parents and caregivers of young children called “What Do I Say Now? How To Help Protect Your Child From Sexual Abuse. It will show you how to teach and reinforce safety skills that are in some of the lessons. There is an outline of all the lessons we will discuss following this page. There are photo cards, discussion questions and activities that go with each lesson. You are welcome to view the pictures cards and lesson plans.

Please let me know if there are any lessons that you do not want your child to participate in or if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Jordan Redden
