Research – Semester 1

Wed November 14 – Rough drafts are handed back with comments.  Students should now be working on their data collection.

Wed November 7 – Rough Draft Background report is DUE!

Wednesday 15 August – Getting a vision for research. Review past research projects,  Freshmen outline possible projects (pros & cons), Designing a machine.

Thursday 16 August – Connections video.  Assignment: write a brief essay using the concepts of “connections” and “turning points” to reflect on the video we just watched and to anticipate your experiences in research this year.  Two pages, hand written, double spaced. Due at end of class, 20 pts.

Friday 17 August – All Day, All School event.  Morning: heard from HP and Evan regarding Zoo rules etc.  Break.  Heard from clubs: Key, Roots & Shoots, Knitting, Science Olympiad, Chess.  Lunch.  Watched Guns Germs & Steel Part 1.  Group activity – analyzing connections within video.

Wed Aug 22 – Research projects must be chosen by next week.  9th grade students must choose a national park and show me that they can find resources on that park.  Other students must have identified an appropriate topic with enough challenge to be worthwhile but narrow enough to be doable.
