4th quarter

vendredi, le 2 mai:

Today we took a QUIZ over Cyrano Act I, and we started Act II, reading it aloud.  We also saw José Ferrar in the 1950’s version of Cyrano-we watched a clip of his balcony scene.

jeudi, le 1 mai:

Today we did a partner activity where we put different events in the correct chronological order. We did this with a partner, and turned it in at the end of class. It was graded.   We also wrote 5 sentences where we “guessed” what Cyrano, Christian and Roxane WILL DO in Act II using the future.

Today we reviewed Future Tense, and Cyrano; We watched some film clips of the play. QUIZ OVER ACT I AND VOCABULARY VENDREDI.

mardi, le 29 avril:

Today we focused on reviewing Simple Future (regular verbs) which we discussed yesterday, then we were introduced to IRREGULAR FUTURE STEM VERBS.  Get the notes from a friend, or from Madame Dimon if you missed today’s class. We did Marker Board practice with these.

Today we read scene III act I of Cyrano; we were introduced to the SIMPLE FUTURE tense-I will…..    versus I am going to…..     Today we learned the process of conjugating these, including future endings.

Ouvertures:  IN your own words, write what has happened in Cyrano de Bergerac thus far, in ENGLISH!

vendredi, le 25 avril:

Today we read CYRANO I. I. in small groups, and we reviewed the vocab.  Then, Madame Dimon read scene II to the class, we went over vocab scene 2, then broke into small groups for reading aloud. No homework.

Today we started CYRANO DE BERGERAC. We read an overview (en français) of Cyrano, and Ronsard; students received vocab. sheets for the play, and we read Act I scene I today as a class.

Imparfait versus Passé Composé:

 

 

Imparfait: Habitual action-you do it often, you do it every _______(Monday, week, evening);

 

         Descriptive action (the weather, what someone was doing, etc.)

 

          What someone “USED TO DO” (when they were young, etc.)

 

:       Used with verbs that end in “ing
•    P.C.    Action that is “out of nowhere”-it is NOT ongoing, it is a specific event in the past that doesn’t happen all of the time.

Today, we were introduced to the formation of the imparfait.  If you missed this, you need to look in your text book to page 198 or talk to Madame Dimon after school.

We also reviewed the verbs in 6.1-all new verbs should be copied into french notebooks by tomorrow.

Today we started chapter 6, which is an introduction to telling about your childhood. We looked at the text page 194-195. Assignment:  Copy all of the new verbs from these pages into notebooks by tomorrow.

Today we reviewed the reflexive verbs in chapter 5.1, and the nouns of vocab. We played tic-tac-toe with this vocab/verbs.
Devoirs: We wrote a paragraphe about our Daily Routine using reflexives-we included 7 verbs (including manger and boire which are not reflexive) and 4 nouns from 5.1; We also used 5 connector words. This was due at the end of class.

Today we practiced the Writing section of the Quiz that will be on Friday. (Breakfast: What do you eat? What do other people in your family eat? Compare to a french breakfast…)

Today, we reviewed vocab 3.2: Places/people who work at different places-

Ouvertures:  List as many shops/stores as you can in your ouvertures without looking at any notes!  Try to name at least 6 different stores, write as many quantitative expressions as we can recall.

We corrected the homework worksheet in class. I collected it for a grade.

Writing Activity:  Looking at your notes, list the new stores. In a complete sentence, tell WHO works there, and name 2 things they would sell there.  THEN WORKING WITH A PARTNER: We described the place sells, and tried to have our partners guess the place.

Students will only use a master class set in the class, and will have the option of printing out their own packet at home, or writing down the answers on a piece of notebook paper and turning in to me. This means students are to focus and WORK during classtime on these packets, not sit and socialize.

1. We took notes on the “Passe Composé with Etre” card we received yesterday. This is VERY important info! If you were gone, you must get this info from a classmate a.s.a.p. We discussed how p.p.’s that use être make agreement with e and s on the end of the p.p.’s.

1.  Did part 2 of the “Indirect Pronouns” Grammar Tutor: Did the last page, B, C, and D in class.

2.  WORKSHEET:  Indirect Obj Pron?/  Direct Obj Pro?.  On this worksheet, we did 1-10 in small groups, with marker boards to verify our responses.  Then, we did 11-22 ALONE.  Translations: Write English of all even numbered questions, including their pronouns, on the back.

2. LIVING SENTENCES.  Students received different elements of a sentence, Madame Dimon called out sentences, they used their cards to form sentences including D.O.P.’s.  This was GREAT practice for structure using D.O.P.’s.

Today was a workday for projects, with the emphasis being on WRITING THE PARAGRAPHS FOR THE HOUSE PROJECTS. Students who finished by the end of class were able to have hand them in, so they could be edited by tomorrow.  Students also had time to prepare for their orals, or ask questions about them.

Today students received their ORAL QUESTIONS for the oral tests which will begin on Thursday;  students had a written “Où est Pompon” assignment, where they had to write 5 complete sentences describing where the cat was-this was turned in.

POP QUIZ: Listening: Logique? Pas Logique?  I read 10 french sentences which included room/furniture/preposition vocab….students had to decide if the sentences were logical or not logical.

PROJECT; Designing a room, or House!  The assignment sheet was handed out and discussed. We had a pep rally, so the class was shorter today.

Students turned in their  worksheets, then we did a small group “brainstorming” review of rooms/furniture and verbs you would do in each room.

mercredi, le 25 septembre:

“Où est Pompon?”  Overheard review of prepositions where we looked at different pictures, and described where the cat is in the picture.  Speaking points were awarded.

Worksheet over new vocab.  8.2.  Due tomorrow.

Today we did an overhead review of the rooms/furniture vocab. We also did a flashcard review.

We did an A/B partner activity, practicing that vocab.  We started a ppt. on Roman Architecture.

Today, we reviewed the IR/ER/RE verbs by doing an inclass overhead activity.  We also did partner work, spelling out conjugations/subjects to our partner as they checked our spelling.

We reviewed the verbs Dormir, Sortir, Partir.  WE WILL HAVE AN EXAM THIS FRIDAY OVER ALL OF THESE VERBS.

We reviewed our ER, RE, IR conjugations; we copied the conjugations of the irregular verbs DORMIR, SORTIR, PARTIR in our verb charts. These are irregular, and are NOT IR verbs!

DEVOIRS: page 26 text, activity 38. Choose the logical verb to go in the blanks, and CONJUGATE it correctly. Due tomorrow!

Today we reviewed the formation of ER verbs;  we copied down endings for “IR” verbs. We watched some of the grammar videos of things learned in ch 1.

“Roulez les Dés!” conjugation game involving rolling 2 dice-one for subject, one for verb you need to conjugate. We wrote these on marker boards.

Today was a club day, and a lot of students were gone, or were gone for sports. The rest of us did a reading activity on Carnac where we read outloud, and then answered 6 questions in English about the reading.

Today we practiced ER verbs, and brainstormed for as many ER verbs as we could remember from last year.

We read the “Flash Culture’ on page 20; we did Activity #22 on page 20; Exprimons Nous on page 21.

Today students received their edited paragraphs about themselves, were assigned a second paragraph about another family member-hand in at the end of class.   We corrected the packets on the overhead after I took completion grades;  talked about our quiz 1.1  we will have next week.
