04/18/16: Unit 5 Mini-Unit Quiz
The quiz will be on Thursday 4/20. The quiz will have three parts. Part 1 will include a paragraph response describing both the Democratic and Republican Political Platforms. Part 2 will include analyzing a political cartoon regarding political platforms. Part 3 will include a matching portion with bandwagon techniques and analysis of examples of propaganda. We will turn in our portfolios like always as well.

04/18/16: Patriocracy Reflection
One-page minimum response to the documentary watched in class on Thursday, Friday & Monday. Use the handout to guide your writing if needed but you have free reign to write about anything this video made you think about.

04/01/16: 3 Branches of Government Review
Test will consist of 56 multiple choice questions and a couple short answer questions. The topics you will need to be familiar with are on the Review Handout to be found on the Assignments & Documents page. The following questions are the short answer questions you should be prepared to answer.

1. Discuss the ways in which congressional powers are limited.
2. Imagine that the majority of the people represented by a senator favors a bill, but the senator opposes it. Should the senator vote for or against the bill? Explain your decision.
3. The president has many roles and responsibilities as leader of the nation. Discuss several of these roles and the powers and responsibilities associated with each role.
4. Describe the order of presidential succession.
5. Identify and discuss four kinds of law in the United States. (sources of law)
6. As you have learned, the Supreme Court has an enormous influence on the lives of the people of the United States. Yet the Supreme Court justices are not elected by the people. Do you think this is in keeping with the democratic nature of the U.S. government? Explain your position.

Watch the video and write down actions each president took that fit under “Domestic Roles” (As Legislative Leader, Political Party Leader, etc) and actions each president took that fit under “Foreign Roles” (as Commander in Chief, Chief Diplomat, etc).

Executive Branch Collage Directions:

You will be creating a collage that depicts the function of the executive department you were assigned to research on Wednesday. The purpose of your collage is to demonstrate your knowledge about what programs and other government agencies your executive department oversees. If you did not complete your research part of your assignment you may try using the book OR use any electronic device you have at your disposal (they should be used for research ONLY and will be confiscated if you are abusing this privilege). The collage should include:
A. Title of Executive Department (i.e. Department of State)
B. The name of the Department’s Secretary
C. Short slogan that defines broadly the function of the Department (i.e. “We do Foreign Policy”)
D. Minimum of 6 images that depict the function of the Department
a. On the back there should be a description of each image and WHAT it represents and WHY you included it on your collage (ex: Group doing Health and Human Services may include a picture of a wheelchair, their description may say that a wheelchair represents Medicare which is health insurance provided by the government for elderly and disabled Americans)
Due date: This is due tomorrow at the beginning of class. Completed collages can be left in the room. Incomplete collages should be taken with you.

There are a couple things you should be working on this weekend. First, the “Applying the Bill of Rights” worksheet should be complete and ready to be discussed on Monday. A copy of the assignment can be found on the Assignments & Documents link. Second, you should be ready to put together your “Other Amendments Poster Assignment” on Tuesday of next week. This includes printing off all bullet-pointed information, pictures, and bibliography. I will supply any items you need to create your posters. If you want something unique or special please bring that on Tuesday as well. If you choose to make posters at home I will have other assignments for you on Tuesday to keep you busy.
