Seven students in 7th and 8th grade from Mickle Middle School attended the 2016 Latina Youth Leadership Conference on Friday, Feb 5th at UNL. The event was hosted by Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Alpha Gamma Chapter. The theme was Dream. Build. Challenge. Students rotated through five sessions led by Sorority members. Students explored how to be a leader in today’s world. The Key Note speaker for the event was Dr. Amelia Montes, an associate professor at UNL. She spoke to the students about motivation and the role failure plays in our life journey. She had students brainstorm and share out about personal challenges and accomplishments. Students wrote a letter to themselves starting with “I know it’s been hard but…” encouraging students to think optimistically about their futures. Finally, she spoke about helping others through rough times. The students had an amazing time learning about leadership and being a strong girl/woman in today’s world. They also enjoyed working with the college students, who acted as amazing role models throughout the day!

Mickle will be celebrating kindness during GLSEN’s No Name-Calling Week!

Supported by over 60 national partner organizations, No Name-Calling Week supports GLSEN’s effort to create safe schools free of name-calling, bullying and bias.

At Mickle this year we will celebrate with a Caught you Caring Campaign, morning announcements, Media Center book display, student created skit and finally we will encourage all staff and students to wear Mickle blue on Friday.

Camp Erin will be hosting another FREE weekend camp for Grieving Children & Teens.

Camp Erin is a free weekend camp for kids ages 6-17 who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives.  This year it is being held Sept 25-27 at Camp Carol Joy Holling by Ashland. Below you will find the camp brochure and application form that can be emailed to families.  We are taking applications now, however our capacity is limited.  You can also find information at www.mourninghope.org or call them at 402-488-8989.

Learning Activities at Home:

Include your student in daily chores, meal prep, dishes, cleaning, gardening, etc. Take a walk/run…The American Heart Association recommends children over 2 engage in at least one hour of moderate, physical activity each day.

All 6th, 7th & 8th grade students who earned A’s, B’s and no N’s during 3rd quarter were invited to attend our Academic Excellence Honor Roll Celebration. Students received donut holes, juice, a certificate to take home and a star to hang on our Honor Roll wall. Congrats and keep up the good work!
