PBIS Tier 2: AIM & Small Groups

As part of the district’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program (PBIS) we have implemented a new second level intervention for students at Mickle Middle School. The 2014-2015 school year was our first year implementing AIM (a check-in/check-out intervention) at Mickle. Each school within the district has their own version of AIM. This year we will also be implementing Social, Academic and Instructional Groups (SAIG). We will be using the Skillstreaming curriculum to teach skills in small groups.

SKILLSTREAMING:

Skillstreaming is an evidence-based intervention that involves systematically teaching social skills that address the needs of students. It’s processes focus is on four direct instruction principles of learning. These learning procedures (modeling, role-playing, feedback, and transfer) have been used to teach a variety of pro-social behaviors. Skillstreaming will teach students the skills needed to follow school rules better, solve problems, to be assertive, and to increase the chance that they will have satisfying relationships with others.
