Updates!

ello 4th grade families,
It has been awhile since I have sent an update to you…I think it is due time 🙂  This week brings the awards ceremony on Friday. There were some miss printed times. The times below are correct. We hope to see you at the ceremony if you can make it!!
  • 9:15     Kindergarten & First Grades
  • 10:15 Second & Third Grades
  • 2:45     Fourth & Fifth Grades
Please let me know if you have questions about anything below!
Reading
We are back to a Friday testing schedule this quarter for reading/spelling.  There are a few Fridays that we will not have school, so on those weeks tests will be on Thursdays. This week’s essential question is: What can you discover when you look at something closely?  Our stories are all expository texts (non-fiction) and have us looking at things in our world up close. You can ask your child what a sugar crystal looks like under a microscope!  Our skills are: sequencing, summarizing, vocabulary context clues, and expository text. The grammar skill is comparing using more/most. The spelling skill is r-controlled vowels.  The test for this wee will be Friday, 20th. Weekly reading homework will continue to come home.
Math
We have started Chapter 21 this week with Decimals and Fractions. We are learning how the two relate and how to read, write and model these amounts. The test for this chapter will be Wednesday the 25th.
Writing
In writing we are beginning our focus on Biographies.  Your child will be learning how to research from books and online sources and then write a report. They will be selecting a person they feel passionate about learning more about.
Science
This is our last rotation in Unit Studies. Our homeroom class is starting in science. We are doing electricity this quarter and will be learning how to create circuits and make light bulbs light. I will be posting a study guide on the blog in the near future. The DCA for this unit will be Wednesday, April 1st.
