Weekly Update 2/8/16

Good evening!
Conferences for those of you who had scheduled for the snow day will be tomorrow night at the same time!  I sent home reminders todaywith students. If you are not sure of times, please call the office tomorrow and they can help!!
There are lots of things going on this week!!  Today we had women come to talk to us about Quilting and Nebraska History. We made a class paper quilt that represents Nebraska history. Tomorrow we will have presenters come to school to talk with student about bullying. Information for you came home today on pink paper. We will also be going to Heritage School this Friday. Students are encouraged to dress up. If you have questions, please let me know.
Valentine’s Day is this coming weekend. We will not be having a party at school, but if your child wants to bring Valentines for the class, they are welcome to do so! No candy with Valentines. I will send home a class list of names tomorrow.
There is no school on Monday, 15th. It is a teacher plan day.
Reading
This week is our Unit 4 Review and Assessment. Tomorrow we will take the vocabulary meaningful sentence portion of the test. Wednesday we will do the grammar section of the test. Grammar review packets (goldenrod colored paper) were given to students today to review for this assessment. If you sign them and return them students will get tickets to use for rewards or lunch in the room. Thursday we will take the comprehension portion of the assessment.
Writing
We have started writing Persuasive Essays for the next few weeks. Students really enjoy the change in genre and usually have fun writing essays to persuade people. This will be our 3rd quarter writing objective and score.
Math
Chapter 18 is a very short chapter and the test for geometric figures is tomorrow. On Wednesday we will begin chapter 19 with fractions. This is a much longer chapter and we will spend several days on some objectives.

  • 19.4: Compare Fractions
  • 19.7: Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions
