About US

Lets go this way! ???

With 3 masters level teachers sometimes its difficult to agree on everything but we set egos aside and work well as a team. We really enjoy one another as colleagues and friends.

Mrs. Sypal-

Mrs. Sypal is a Lux original having been here all 17 years.  She taught 6th grade for 15 years, then one year of 7th grade, and now 7th and 8th grades. Her life is wonderfully busy with husband, Ken, 4 grown kids, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and 4 grandsons. Life is better with family, yoga, and fun. Mrs. Sypal enjoys taking students to D.C.

Mrs. Mercure-

Mrs. Mercure is also one of the original Lux teachers and has taught both 7th and 8th grade social studies.  She stays busy traveling internationally for three weeks in the summer with high school students and has been all over the world. Ireland is her favorite country to visit and she has been there ten times.  She is the coordinator of the Japanese pen pal program with our sister school in Senshu, Japan and leads the trips to Japan every two years.  She also is the coordinator for the trip to Washington, D.C. over spring break.  In her spare time, she loves to go to flea markets and has antique booths all around the city.   She lives in Tecumseh with her husband and has 4 grown children and 4 grandchildren.

Mr. Irvine-

Mr. Irvine has been teaching 8th Grade American history for 18 years. Though he looks older than Mrs. Mercure and Mrs. Sypal he is the youngest of the bunch. He has a beautiful talented wife, 4 kids (2 at Lux) and 2 dogs. On Saturdays in the Fall you will find him in a “Sea of Red” and his classroom or clothing style will reflect that. Mr. Irvine also loves taking students to D.C.
