Many schools use “WebEvent” for their web site calendar. If the calendar on your school’s web site says “powered by WebEvent” in the top-right, then your calendar is one of these. School calendars based on WebEvent will eventually be migrated to Zimbra calendars.

Because WebEvent is a completely separate system from our primary mail/calendar system for staff, WebEvent will be able to continue running after the Zimbra migration. Calendars that are currently being maintained in WebEvent will continue to be that way after the January Zimbra upgrade.

WebEvent calendars are not able to be easily exported in a format that can be imported into Zimbra, so our expectation is that most will prefer to stay with WebEvent for the current school year and then, when it comes times to put events on next year’s calendar, put those in Zimbra and switch to that calendar. However, if you either do not have many events or do not mind re-entering your events, school calendars can be switched to Zimbra at any time.

If you would like to discuss having your school’s calendar switched to Zimbra, please contact me (Brian Fitzgerald) at bfitz@lps.org or simply leave a comment below!

Will your mobile device work with Zimbra? Without testing each device, it is hard to give a definitive yes or no on everything, but the following should give you an idea of what you will be able to do with yours.

Any device will likely be able to connect to get your mail. The tricky bits concern syncing your calendar and/or contacts.

Email is something that many of us spend a LOT of time in and some of us have spent quite a bit of time tweaking it to work our way. Zimbra is great for this crowd as it has many settings that allow it to be configured in a way that should work for you. Here are a few of the many settings available:

    • Conversation view: see an original email message and all replies to it grouped together in a single thread
    • Message view: see messages sorted by whatever criteria you select
    • Reading pane at the bottom: See a preview of your selected message below your message list
    • Reading pane at the right: See your selected message
    • No reading pane: Just view a list of your messages and double click to read

… And that’s it. Student Vote 2010 is over. Results are available at http://lps.org

The winners? Jeff Fortenberry, Dave Heineman, Janet Stewart (in an amazingly close race) and Don Stenberg. Of course these weren’t the winners everywhere. Take a look at the results page to see the number broken down by school.

Thank you everybody for a successful Student Vote. We’ll see you in two years!!

Looks like things are winding down with a little over 17,000 ballots received. The polls will remain open until 3:30. At that time, the results will be made available to the public at http://lps.org

If you have any paper balloting numbers that you need added, please send them to me at bfitz@lps.org. Please remember to tell me what school you are at.
