Spanish 2 – PERIODS 1 AND 3

1) We went over the answers for the Mariachi questions and then watched a clip of a traditional Mexican folkloric dance.

2) We practiced using the preterite and the imperfect in the same sentence. Remember: Yo hacía mi tarea cuando Sally llamó. (I was doing my homework when Sally called.)

3) Students worked with their “Beauty and the Beast” partners to see if they were able to use the preterite and the imperfect correctly when telling the story of the short clip we saw in class. They then worked on using “ser” and “estar” in a story. Both are probably going to be in the imperfect, but remember that “estar” is used for how you feel or where you are. “Ser” is used for physical appearance and personality.

4) We went over the volcano legend – Ixta y Popa – to identify how the preterite and the imperfect were used in that story.

5) We read the legend of the origin of corn (La leyenda del maíz) to see an example of a story that did not have a prince, princess, etc.

6) We looked at a good example of an original story written by a student , and then started to sketch out our ideas. Remember – you need characters, setting, plot, conflict, resolution.

7) La tarea – You will write your original story the next time we meet. Be sure to bring your yellow “Apuntes” sheet to class. That is the only help you will have available when you write your story.
