Classroom Expectations

Classroom Expectations Sra. Texley  Room 214

To help you to become successful in Spanish, and to speak it proficiently, I have designed a workshop atmoshpere in my classroom. You will work with an assigned partner and a small group of peers on a daily basis to get the practice that you need to master each skill. I will provide you with the instruction, and guide you along the way. But it is completely up to you to master the language. The effort that you put into the experience will make a big difference in your proficiency and in your grade! There are some non-negotiable rules in my class and some procedures that help to make the learning experience run smoothly. This page defines them.

Any problem not resolved between Señora Texley and the student will require parent and/or administrator intervention. This may include a phone call/email home, a referral, parent/student/teacher conference or administrative detention.

A RESPECT the members of your group and your classmates. This includes:

  • Don’t laugh at someone when they make a mistake.
  • Do help each other but without simply giving the answer.
  • Don’t automatically translate into English out-loud.
  • Do pick up after yourself.
  • Ask permission before using the books, props, clothes etc. that are on display around the room
  • No food, pop or candy –Water is fine
  • No electronic device of any kind -it will be confiscated and taken to the office. A grade of zero will be assigned. The student will be required to re-do any assignment or re-take any quiz with 65% as the highest possible grade.

B PARTICIPATE actively in class.

  • Attend class everyday and be on time -A detention will be served after the 3rd tardy.
  • It is your responsibility to make-up missed assignments due to absences.
  • Bring your textbook, folder, paper and pencil everyday.
  • Actively participate during games and speaking activities.
  • Be active during partner work.
  • Keep track of your progress.
  • Ask questions.
  • Follow the behavior expectations of East High School.

C HOMEWORK: It is the formative practice that makes you proficient.

  • Complete homework on time.
  • Do your own work.
  • Do not copy.-All students who engage in copying will receive no credit for the assignment.
  • Plagiarized work results in zero credit. -This includes using any electronic device.
  • You will be expected to re-do the assignment to show that you understand the material.
  • Excused Absence- make-up your work in 2 days.
  • Homework from an unexcused absence -can only receive a maximum of 65%.
  • Final Deadline for partial credit is the last Thursday of each quarter.

D TESTS AND QUIZZES: Each unit is a building block for further learning.

  • Students must make up test and quizzes within 2 weeks for full credit.
  • To retake a test, a student must show the evidence of preparation by 1)handing in all assignments and 2)attending at least one tutoring session.
  • If an electronic device is used on a quiz/test, the student will receive no credit for that assessment. The student will be required to re-take any quiz during the next available tutoring session.

Remember that all of the assigned activities, whether inside or outside of class, are designed to help you speak and remember Spanish better. You are expected to participate in all partner and group speaking activities. You will find that the year goes so quickly and we have fun mixed with the hard work. Follow these guidelines to have a successful year!

******IT IS A WORLD LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT POLICY THAT STUDENTS WHO RECEIVE A D+ OR LOWER SHOULD RETAKE THE COURSE.*******
