World of Business is a survey course that will provide the student with opportunities to explore the other courses available to them through the LSW Business Department. This course will focus on career paths available to the student for post-secondary careers or education. We will be utilizing the Nebraska Career Education Model[1] and focusing on the Business, Marketing & Management and the Communication & Information Systems fields of this model. This course will be divided into 5 Units of Study.
UNITS OF STUDY
UNIT ONE: Networking, Decision Making, Nebraska Career Clusters
UNIT TWO: Marketing
UNIT THREE: Hospitality & Tourism
UNIT FOUR: Business Management & Administration
UNIT FIVE: Finance
UNIT SIX[ii]: Information Technology
GRADES
Grades are available online via LSW’s Pinnacle Online Grade & Attendance System. Graded assignments will have a letter/percentage grade listed. If it has a “Z” it is missing, an “X” means the assignment has been excused, and if it is blank that assignment has not been graded yet.
The District Office has mandated that all courses will have a grade book weighted as follows: 80% Summative Assignments & 20% Formative Assignments. For this class it breaks down as follows:
FORMATIVE – Individual Daily Assignments –Worksheets, Notes, etc.
SUMMATIVE – Unit Projects & Term Final Project
– Unit Project Grade has two parts:
*Group Grade – based on rubric for the overall project
*Individual Grade – based on 1/3 Peer Assessment, 1/3 Teacher Assessment,
1/3 Individual Answers to Project Quiz)
*The Term Final will account for approx. 20-25% of the Summative Points Total!
