College Personal Finance is a senior level course that allows students to earn graduation credit at Southwest High School while simultaneously earning credit at Southeast Community College (SCC).  This “LSW Syllabus” is an abbreviated version of the full SCC Syllabus which is given to all students who take the course at LSW for credit at SCC.  You can also obtain a copy of the full SCC Syllabus by emailing the LSW instructor at jhinric@lps.org.

Survey of principles and methods of managing personal financial resources. An introduction of how economic concepts and functions impact personal financial decisions. Topics include:  economic concepts, banking, saving and investment, credit, major purchases (home/auto), risk management (home, life, health, and auto), tax strategies, and retirement planning.

GRADES
For students that opt to pay the tuition and receive credit from SCC their grade will be reported to SCC at the end of the term.

Grades for ALL STUDENTS are available online via LSW’s Pinnacle Online Grade & Attendance System.  Most assignments will be assigned a letter grade; however some assignments may be noted with the following marks instead of a letter grade:

Y – Yes: Assignment has been completed
N – No: Assignments has not been completed
X – Excused: Assignment has been excused & does not need to be completed
Z – Missing: Assignment is missing and needs to be completed

The District Office has mandated that all courses will have a grade book weighted as follows: 80% Summative Assignments (Tests & 20% Formative Assignments.  For this class it breaks down as follows:

20% FORMATIVE – Assignments/Projects given throughout the term
80% SUMMATIVE –Final Exam*, Unit Tests, & Quizzes
*The Term Final is worth 1/5 of the Summative Category

 

POLICIES & PROCEDURES
Students are given a formal presentation of policies and procedures during the first days of class.  Hard copies are available in my classroom.  You will also find them on this website under “Policies & Procedures”.
