Writing Philosphy

Putting words to paper and having them work in the way intended is the ultimate goal for any writer.  Sixth grade is about helping students hone their writing skills, refining and heightening strengths while filling in any needs with the skills required.  Writing and reading are two sides of the same coin.  Building on one will strengthen the other.  Below are some writing tenets for sixth grade writing.

A Writer’s Life in Sixth Grade

. . .We will write every day.

. . . We will learn to speak the language of a writer.

. . . We will learn to observe the world, people, and situations around us.

. . . We will write from our hearts.

. . . We will try to take risks in our writing.

. . . We will write to real audiences with meaningful purposes.

. . . We will try ideas from other writers and make them our own.

. . . We will use writer’s tools: a writing notebook, draft booklets, rubrics, and checklists.
