Policy change for Volunteers who want to go on field trips and/or chaperone a field trip.

Policy change for Volunteers who want to go on field trips and/or chaperone a field trip.
This year we are requiring all volunteers who want to chaperone field trips or go on field trips to be at Level IIIstatus and pass a background check. Information was sent by email to current volunteers with that information.

How Parents Apply To Be A Volunteer: To request to be a volunteer online – on LPS.org main page – on the left side under “Be a Volunteer”. You will need to fill out the form online. You can use a computer in the Prescott Library if they don’t have one at home. You will be notified by email when they are “activated.”

For our Current Level II Volunteers: The Level II’s have been informed of the change. Toni is in the process of initiating the requests for the update from Level II to Level III status. As she does this, the volunteer will be sent an email request for their DOB and SSN. We will be notified if they pass the background check, or not.

SNAC Meeting

Dear Prescott community members,
Please join us on Tuesday, August 30th at 6:30 pm in the media center for our first SNAC meeting. If you are interested to participate to add your ideas and help out with the planning and the coordination of the community building activities, please join us. We also hope to have more and new faces around the table this time, so  bringing a Prescott neighbor interested to be part of this group would be a great idea. Also, personal invitations to the SNAC meetings went out to all Prescott families over the summer months.
The conversation will focus on the sustainability of the outdoor classroom: current needs, how we are doing financially, who is currently involved, how can everyone contribute.
Your voice is extremely important as we move forward, so we hope you decide to be part of the decision making process.
On a separate note, Grace Lutheran Church has extended an invitation to all Prescott parents to participate in the Appreciation Dinner held this Sunday, August 28th. If you would like to participate, please call Sandi at 402-474-1506. Over the years, Grace Lutheran Church has been one of our most valued partner (they have donated food baskets, school supplies, health office items, money, volunteers, club leaders) so this would be a great opportunity to celebrate this partnership.
Thank you all in advance,

Salt Dogs is tomorrow 8/24/16

We are so excited about our Saltdogs game tomorrow! Please know we are keeping an eye on the sky as there is a chance of rain tomorrow.
We ask that you please send an appropriate rain jacket for your student and keep in mind that umbrellas are not allowed in the park. If there are sprinkles or light rain, the game will go on and we will continue to have fun at the park.

In case of severe weather, we have a plan in place to keep the students safe and out of harms way.

We are looking forward to tomorrow and the fun memories we’ll create!

AWESOME FIRST DAY!

The 2016-2017 School Year is off to an AWESOME start at Prescott. We had a great day August 15th and we are looking forward to 175 more AWESOME days!

Math homework starts today, August 16th and Spelling will start in two weeks. Every 5th grader receives a planner. The expectation is that in this planner students will write down homework assignments, keep track of spelling and important dates like upcoming tests. If you are wondering what your student is doing in math or what his/her spelling words are; your first stop should be his or her planner.

As always, if you have questions or concerns about what your student is doing in class please do not hesitate to call 402-436-1161 or email any one of the 5th grade teachers.

To Parents/Guardians of 5th Grade Students:

On Wednesday, August 24, LPS 5th grade students will attend the Lincoln Saltdogs baseball game in Haymarket Park. This community event is made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Lincoln Saltdogs organization. Thanks go to many parents who have also contributed. Free bus transportation and game tickets will be provided for all students.

The first pitch will be at 11:00 am. School staff will accompany their students to the game that is expected to end about 1:30 pm. LPS and charter busses will transport students from school to the game, then return them to school prior to dismissal. Students should bring a sack lunch and refillable water bottle to the game or they may order lunch from the school cafeteria.

Prior to game day, teachers will be using various instructional activities related to baseball within the curriculum. This field trip provides many opportunities for 5th graders to apply what they are learning in math, reading, writing, science, social studies, character education, health, physical education, and other areas of the school curriculum. It is also an effective and fun way for students to learn about their community and some of the outstanding resources Lincoln has to offer its citizens.

During the game LPS students will lead the singing of the national anthem, serve as guest announcers, and participate in activities between innings. Students will remain with their teachers during the game. The public will also be admitted to this game, however no alcoholic beverages or peanut products will be sold. Parents are welcome to purchase tickets and attend the game, but they will not be able to sit with their students.

We look forward to making this field trip a special day for our 5th grade students as they begin their final year of elementary school. If you have any questions about this event, please contact your student’s 5th grade teacher.

**We will have to order lunches for students right away. Teachers will be taking a count on Friday, August 19th of students planning on ordering a sack lunch from the school. Please talk with your student ahead of time and plan accordingly.**
