January 24

8th: Today we did another 5 speed and acceleration problems from our list, in order to keep our skills sharp.  After that we worked through more of Newton’s laws and balanced and unbalanced forces.  Tomorrow the assessment questions from page 39 are due: 1 and 2, a, b, and c.

7th: Today we went to the computer lab to explore what a T-Rex would taste like.  The vocabulary terms and questions over his identity crisis are due!

January 23

8th: Today we reviewed some speed an acceleration problems, and then calculated how long it would take to count to a billion.  Try it.  It’s not that easy. Tomorrow we explore more balanced and unbalanced forces.

7th: Today we reviewed the three domains and started a foldable project comparing and contrasting all three with the aid of powerpoint slides!

8th: Today we reviewed the formulas from last week (which we will do more of) and then started in on the nature of force and Newton’s laws of motion.

7th: Today we reviewed a little of taxonomy and started in with domains and kingdoms.  Guided reading dues tomorrow for both grades!!

January 17

8th: Review of formulas related to this week’s material.  Formula Foldable project was started and completed, as well as a physics challenge: rolling a marble down an incline plane into a receptacle and moving it forward.

7th: Today was the seed classification lab.  Homework that was due today will be gone over in class tomorrow.  Quiz coming up!

January 16

8th: Today we reviewed the guided reading over acceleration and made sure everyone is on the same page.  After that, we worked through a marble track lab where the kids were asked to construct a track for a marble to travel down a shelf, across the floor, change it’s direction and maintain its speed enough to hit the wall from which it began.  Fun and messy.

7th: Today we reviewed how many species there are in the tropics as well as watched more of Becoming human and talked about the connection between animal classification and evolution.  Phylogenic Tree

8th: Today we worked through an exercise on changing directions and how it relates to velocity and acceleration.

7th: Today we went through the guided reading on classification of species and the intro into the theory of evolution.  We have an assignment on how many species of beetles there is due for tomorrow.

January 11: Quiz Day!

8th: Quiz over speed, acceleration and velocity.  Most of it was vocabulary based and interpreting data from a chart.  Remember, anyone can retake quizzes if they need to!!

7th: Quiz over Characteristics of Life.  Everyone did pretty well since we hammered away at the vocabulary all week!  Nexk week is classification of species!

January 10

8th: Today we reviewed speed, acceleration and velocity through some data manipulation.  We’re going to have a quiz over the vocab and main points of this week’s material.  It’s a little “mathy” so we’re going to repeat most of it until we show some mastery.

moldy-bread-on-countertop-flickr17th: Today we started a bacterial growth lab with some bread.  The kids are interested to see how gross they get over the next week or so.  We also completed the assessment questions on page 14: numbers 1, 2 and 3 (a,b, &c!)  Quiz tomorrow!
