Photoshop CS3 Extended Plug-In for Google 3D Warehouse

I knew that the newest version of Photoshop CS3 came in an extended version, allowing for 3D modeling and more “scientific” stuff. Today I encountered the first interesting application for it.

Adobe Labs released a plug-in that allows for searching and downloading from the Google 3D modeling “warehouse” used by Sketchup and Google Earth.

So, what can you do with it in an educational setting? A few things come to mind immediately – in theory:

  • 3D work in HS drafting, woodworking, graphic design classes
  • Allowing students to “redesign” famous buildings as they might have looked today
  • Create illustrations that show scale
  • Create scenes like the one below for story-starters with elementary students:

Look what you can do!

New York City’s Empire State Building crashing into the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
