NeSA Pep Rally!
Monday, March 23 at 3:15 in the gym for grades 3, 4, and 5 as well as any teachers, staff, or others who want to support the students in testing!
(Classes attending will dismiss from the gym.)
From Dr. Stavem:
“Here we go! The fourth quarter is here, and over 39,000 students are progressing toward the ultimate goal of graduation. Can they all tell us what year they’ll graduate? Do you have plans to recognize their achievements this year and their progress toward that goal? Our seniors get to have a big celebration, but what about our fourth graders? What about our 7th graders? Are they thinking about the continuous progress they’ve made this year and how that factors into the big picture of ultimately graduating? We need to recognize the growth we’ve experienced this year and help students see how that continuous progress toward a goal factors into the everyday experience of learning.
As we approach NeSA season, help students and teachers look at this as a celebration of learning, and a way to demonstrate progress on the journey. Did you know that simply saying to students, “I know you’ll give your best effort and show how you’ve grown in your learning,” could impact their perception of how capable they are of doing well? What would happen if we made sure every student heard those words? If you’d like to read more about that simple concept, check out this resource: Mindset by Carol Dweck.”

Love and Logic Moment
By Jim Fay
Off to School on Time
Young teens, Maggie and Marcy, were on Mom’s last nerve. They couldn’t seem to get themselves going in the morning. Getting them out of bed was like pulling teeth. Since Mom drove them to school on her way to work, waiting for them caused her to be late for work several times.
Mom finally decided to take charge of the situation. (Otherwise known as setting limits by taking care of herself.) She bought them an alarm clock and announced that they would be waking themselves from now on.
She also called their attention to the family bulletin board, saying, “From now on my car will be leaving at 7:15 each morning. Feel free to ride with me if you are up and ready. If not, I’ve listed several options for getting to school.
“The phone number for the cab company is listed on the bulletin board. If you don’t like their price, I talked to Mrs. Lackey next door. She’d like to earn some extra money, and would be glad to drive you for $7.00. Or, you can call Dad at work and see how much he would charge to come home to give you a ride. I have no idea how much that would cost.”
Let’s give Mom some well-deserved pats on the back. I guess I don’t need to tell you how this situation worked out.
