BACKPACK PROGRAM:

There is one weekly food backpack available for a Randolph family. Please contact Jane or Vicki at 436-1163 if you are interested in being part of this free, supplemental grocery program.

Jennifer Wick, our Secured Entry Monitor, is taking a position with a law firm in town. Jenn’s last day at Randolph will be Nov. 19th. We thank her for her work with children and staff and families here, and wish her well in her next adventure!

From the HEALTH OFFICE:

Headlice

Not exactly our favorite topic, but for sure an attention grabber.  Headlice is something we deal with in the health office each year.  Some years we see a little more than others.  That is the nature of the bug.  Please let us know if you find head lice on your child.  It is our best hope in helping to stop it’s spread.  We can also share with you what we know to be the most effective treatments.  Unfortunately the internet shares a lot of misinformation.  Let us know if we can be of assistance.  In the meantime remind your child to not share hat, jackets and hair items and whenever possible keep all of their hats and jackets inside of their backpacks.

Dental

The school dentist is coming to Randolph on Nov. 13th. Only students who have not been to a dentist in the last year are screened.  Beginning next week we will be sending home dental slips soon for students we do not yet have information on.  If your child brings home a slip you can fill out the information and return it to the health office.  You can also email our Health Technician at pluce@lps.org with the information.  Thank you.

Love and Logic Moment

By Jim Fay

“Big Ears”

Six-year-old Paul was at the family reunion when he asked his uncle if he could see the moths in his billfold.

“What do you mean?” asked Uncle Fred.

“My dad told my mom that you were so tight that if you ever opened your billfold, moths would fly out, and I want to watch,” replied Paul.

We all know where Paul picked this up. Kids remember all the things they hear through eavesdropping, while they often don’t listen well to the things they are told directly.

Unfortunately, Paul has another problem. He has overheard his parents criticizing his teachers and the school. That could be the reason he believes that his bad grades are not the result of laziness, but because he doesn’t have to do what the stupid teacher says.

Regardless of how we feel about the school or the teacher, it is real bad business to say it where our kids can overhear it. Better we send a consistent message that achievement comes through hard work and listening to the teachers.

Study the DVD, “Hope for Underachieving Kids” to get practical techniques for helping your kids become top students. Thanks for reading! Our goal is to help as many families as possible. If this is a benefit, forward it to a friend.
