Technology Planning Committee notes

September 8, 2014

Present: Nicole Rupp (for Kristin Huebert), Jean Kechely, Keri Keller, Trish Murphy, Katie Davis, Peggy Dynek, Laura Parks, Susie Mahoney, Jeanie Hock, Wendy Bonaiuto

Agenda:

  1. Ten ipad minis:

These are located in the library for teacher check out for use with individual students or small groups.

There is a Zimbra calendar for your use in checking out the ipad minis.

Peggy will send out an email when these are ready for check out.

Peggy will be the clearinghouse for any apps for the ipad minis. If there is a free app you want on the ipads, let Peggy know and she’ll check into/install on all so we have an identical set.

Trish will re-send an email with the link to “Smart Apps for Kids” as a reference for all teachers. Peggy reminded of the Quizlets that are already for teacher use with students!

Remember, there are 5 “old” laptops in the library available for checkout from the library.

  1. Professional learning: What could we offer for building flex that will benefit students and teachers immediately?

Synergy Report Cards—Jeanie and Trish

ipad minis—Trish and Peggy: Use apps with individuals and small groups

Twitter—Peggy: Accessing Grade/Subject chat groups for resources & ideas!

Lexia—Laura O.: Using this computer app for individual reading re-teaching/practice

(For grades 3, 4, 5; Laura O. attending training this week to learn more.)

Symphony Math– XX: Using this app for individual math re-teaching/practice

(For grades K-8; WB investigating access/training)

  1. Budgets: What are our purchasing needs right now?

Keller’s projector is not repairable. Will order one for her classroom.

Request “Bluetooth audio adapter” for use with gym speakers. Trish will find best option for our gym space and send email.

  1. Other:

Grading Program Needed: Teachers in EA and grades 3-4-5 have been making their own spreadsheets or using pencil/paper to record reading homework, math homework, spelling homework, spelling test grades, etc. since the demise of Easy Grade Pro. (Trish looked up buying a site license/individual use license, but the newest EGP operates on 10.4 and LPS runs OS 10.9 so EGP won’t run here.) Trish will investigate computer grading systems (availability and cost) and report back by Sept. 19th.

Smart Board available: Jean will try the smart board in her room. Trish and Peggy will support with cords and instruction.

KUDOS to Trish Murphy from Peggy and all the TPC for the outstanding selection of learning game links on the Randolph webpage!!! Look at the STUDENTS button at the top of the page to see the over 50 links to great learning games for students.

NEXT TPC MEETING: Monday, December 8
