Special Events Coming to Randolph!

International Walk to School Day is Wed., October 9th this year.

Randolph has been selected to be the focus school for the following agencies’ efforts at improving children’s health and wellness:

Safe Kids Lincoln Lancaster County

Safe Routes Nebraska

Teach a Kid to Fish and

Lincoln Lancaster Department of Health

1.  Representatives from each group will be at Curriculum Night to offer parents information about resources for health and wellness.  A survey of parents about students’ healthy habits and safety around school will be distributed to families.

2.  Rick Helweg (a representative of two of these above agencies) will be promoting the World Wide Web of Wellness Club for 4th and 5th graders.  The 4W Club will develop stories and art for newspaper coverage, as well as write, produce and star in a video about students being active, as well as walking or biking to school.  The articles and art will actually be published, and the video will really be broadcast.

The Club limit is 15 students.  4W will meet on Thursdays after school from 3:45-4:30 beginning Sept. 5th.

3.  In preparation for International Walk to School Day, on October 9th, the four organizations will be at Randolph on October 8th, conducting trainings on safety factors such as crossing the streets, safe bike riding, etc.  This day will run much like our Day 0.  All classes of a grade will meet together during Expressive Arts time, be divided into 4 groups, and participate in the four activities provided.  A culminating assembly will be held on Wed., Oct. 9th  to wrap up the events.
