December 15, 2011

Dear Randolph and Lefler Families,

Congestion at dismissal time is a long-standing difficulty at most schools.  Limiting and organizing the congestion as much as possible creates a safer and more secure environment at this important time of day.  Adding to the typical congestion at Randolph Elementary are several Lefler students without a clear purpose for being at Randolph.

Randolph has become an area of social gathering for the middle school students.  While the vast majority of the students are appropriate, any unsupervised situation can result in a problem.  Collaboration amongst both schools and Lefler parents is necessary to help reduce the congestion at Randolph.

Randolph and Lefler administrators are committed to helping create a better dismissal environment at Randolph.  Beginning January 9th, the start of second semester, a new policy with regard to middle school students will be implemented.   Only those students who have a documented need to meet and escort a younger sibling home will be allowed at Randolph.   These students are not to arrive at Randolph prior to 3:38 PM.  Please refer to the policy on the back of this letter for options for these students.  No other Lefler students may stop anywhere on the Randolph property.

The new policy is outlined on the back of this letter.  Please read the policy carefully and make special note that students who currently have permission to be at Randolph may not be eligible under the new guidelines.  Students who are eligible will need to obtain a new permission slip for second semester.

We appreciate your support as we work collaboratively to resolve this issue.  Feel free to contact either of us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Wendy A. Bonaiuto                                                Kelly Schrad

Policy for Middle School Students at Randolph Elementary

  • Only those students who must pick up a younger sibling ANDwalk them home will be allowed to wait at Randolph.
    • Permission to wait at Randolph will require a signed form – a new form for 2nd semester will be required
    • Forms may be obtained from Dr. Bonaiuto at Randolph
    • Students with permission will not be allowed to arrive at Randolph until 3:38 PM
    • Friends will not be allowed to wait with students picking up siblings
    • Students with signed permission forms may wait at Lefler outside with the Star Tran students or may choose to work quietly in the media center until 3:25.
  • Randolph will no longer be a meeting or pick up area for older students whose parents want to pick up several children in one spot.  Lefler students should be picked up at Lefler.
  • Middle school students coming to Randolph with parents to pick up younger siblings are to wait in the car.
  • Middle school students are not allowed to wait or socialize on Randolph property.  Students not following appropriate procedures or school expectations will have their parent notified and are subject to disciplinary consequences at Lefler.
  • Lefler students walking by Randolph are expected to walk by the school without incident and will not be allowed to stop on any portion of the Randolph grounds.  This includes the lower playground area near 39th street.
