Spanish 2

Spanish 2 is the second year of a continuing language program. It builds upon the skills learned in Spanish 1. While learning new vocabulary and phrases in Spanish 2 we will also be incorporating a review of the material learned in Spanish 1.

The textbook used in the class is Avancemos  Level 2. We will cover Units 1-5.   We will start with the Preliminary Unit as  a review unit designed to help students feel comfortable with their Spanish from the first year.   The Avancemos text is online and each student will receive a log-in password so that they may access the text at home even when they forget to take the textbook home.  Additional practice activities are available for students on ClassZone.com.  These are execellent sources for students to review the vocabulary, verbs and grammar.  See the page on Internet Resources for more information.

Each unit contains 2 sections called Lecciónes.   At the end of each Lección is a vocabulary page which contains the key vocabulary words and phrases which must be learned to be successful in the class.  Students should study this vocabulary every night.

We will cover a Lección every 2-3 weeks.  At the end of  each Lección we will have a test. During the Lección we will have quizzes on the vocabulary and/or grammar concepts presented.    The tests after each Lección will include sections on listening, reading and writing.  There may also be sections on the culture from the Unit.   Other types of assessments, such as oral performance assessments and projects will be utilized, also.
