What 8th Graders Think About Their 8th Grade Year

The first person i asked about how their 8th grade year has been was Maci.

I asked her if 8th grade has been her best year in middle school, she answered saying..

” No, 7th grade was my best year. I liked my classes more than the classes i have now. ”

When i asked her what she likes best about this year and she replied with..

” The beginning of my 8th grade was pretty good, i also like the Power Tuesdays, they teach a new lesson about life every Power Tuesday. ”

Next, i asked if there was something she would of done better if she had a chance to, she responded by saying..

” I would of want way better grades because my grades aren’t the best. And they can be way better then what they are now. ”

Then i wondered what high school shes going to. Shes attending Northeast with the rockets.

At last i asked if there was something she would want Dawes Middle School to improve she said..

” Something i would want Dawes to improve are the classes not all but some. I wish we would do things i actually like. I’m going to miss the teachers though. “

Curing Summer Boredom

What do you do during your summer? Read books or play video games? Lets talk about the things you can do to stay active and not sit on your couch all day.. Baseball is something the whole family will enjoy depending in if you have a glove or not.  Go outside and play catch with some friends with a bouncy ball or ride a bike. Have a water ballon fight with your friends.  Go fishing at a local lake.  Just don’t stay inside the whole day it can hurt your health.

Spring Break: Staff Edition

Now that you know what our fantastic students are doing, a question pops up maybe……. What are the teachers doing???? Well Mrs.Bode the Librarian is going on a vacation to Missouri.  When she gets their she will go horse back riding, shopping and eating lots. Mr.Wadell one of the math teachers isn’t going to do very much. He is going to try and fix up the house a little bit and try to sleep in but might not succeed with the baby. Now Ms.Smart is the student teacher for Mrs.Larson is busy busy. She will sleep more go see her mom in York, Nebraska, and research the Holocaust. She also is planing for her special wedding day! So I hope you have a very special Spring Break from everyone and I!

The new apple Tv’s

Have your parents ever told you to stay away from the Tv because it will rot your brains out? Well guess what the teaches brought in something new… apple Tv’s, We interviewed 8 people on what they thought about them.

We asked these simple questions for both teachers and students.

  • “What do you like about the Tv’s?”

Gabe Vicharra and Kwajuan Mensah from the eighth grade replied ” I like how the Tv’s don’t have the light shining in my eyes when I walk past them,”

Alyssa Adams from the the eighth grade also commented “Its a lot easier for people to see,”

Daphne Masters and Macy Howe from the seventh grade answered,   “The picture is much better,”

Christian  Schwditzer a sixth grader stated “Way bigger than the projector.”

Sierra Grady replied “I like how you don’t have to look at a projector and the light doesn’t shine in your eyes,”

With all of this said most of the students liked the Tv’s

  • “What is something you do not like about the Tv’s?”

Macy Howe “They don’t connect to the TV all the time and I have seen others hit their head on it.”

Daphne Masters “It was too bright to look at.”

Kwajuan Mensah  ” I don’t like that you can’t use laser pointers on the Tv.”

Mr.Meter “It can be intimidating and I also don’t like how it doesn’t work like you want it to.”

Gabe Vincura”It gives a bad glare and it shuts off at random.”

But Mrs.Papas says “I have never had any problems at all yet.”

Now there is a few flaws in the new Tv’s, but of most of all the Tv’s are a big improvement for the projectors.

  • What problem have you had with the Tv’s?

Now Gabe Vincura and Kwajuan Mebsag both said “The Tv is too small.”

Brandon Totenhagen said ” They freeze a lot and have a lot of tech problems.”

Now in the conclusion the Tv’s have a lot of problems now but they will be great for learning in the future.

Holocaust Poetry Finalists

The Dawes Middle School eighth graders in Ms. Pappas’ English classes have been working on writing holocaust poetry by reflecting on what they have learned the past couple of weeks. After reading through a lot of great poems Pappas had to come to choose 10 poems to go into the Holocaust Commemoration Book. The following 10 students were chosen for the opportunity to be in the book.

Congratulations to Cecilia Chada, Sazoun Grayer, Thi Huynh, Zanea Nguyen, Alyssa Kolb, Morgan Strodtman, Brandon Fountain-Clark, Rachel Sams, Paige Miller, and Michaela Fransisco.

When Thi Huynh, one of the finalist was asked the question of how she felt when she found out she responded, “I felt very proud of my self, it made me very happy.”

The Dawes Staff is very proud of the finalist and hopes that they continue persuing their skill.

Bullying

” Remind yourself its okay not to be perfect. ”

Hannah Hackstadt thinks bullying is ” Really mean and nobody deserves to be bullied because nobody’s perfect and people have to accept that. ”

We asked how she would feel if she was the one getting bullied and she responded saying ” I would get sad , but i wouldn’t let them get as far as for me to self harm myself. ” She also said that who ever is getting bullied ” Stay strong and don’t believe anything they say because it’s not true!”

Rachel Rockemann wrote a poem and we would like to include it ” Even when you’re down because someone bullied you, dont let it get you to far away to the point where you cant be helped or where you dont want any help. Because you could push yourself away from the world and lose touch with your friends. You could be dead cause of suicide and no one would know about it at all. Speak up for yourself and dont let bullying bring you down. Be nice to others and they will be nice to you. ”

Cheerleading For Next Year.

Hannah Hackstadt

As 8th graders are slowly going into High School, many kids including Hannah Hackstadt are thinking about joining a sport, such as cheerleading. Hannah was asked, ‘What are Dawes looking forward to about cheerleading next year?’ she responded, “I am looking forward to just cheering in general.” After Hannah responded to that question, Hannah was then asked ‘Why’d you join cheerleading for next year?’ she answered, “I joined cheerleading because, well, I just like cheerleading. ‘Hannah was also asked ‘Do you know of any of the requirements for cheer?’ she reported, “I know for sure one of the requirements for cheerleading is that you have to take out any and all body piercings.” Hannah is looking forward to being a North Star cheerleader next year.
