thinking device: playing for change

The purpose of this blog is to model an instructional tool for the teacher to use in the classroom.

Part I:  Coach the Teacher

Think how you would model this blog with your WordPress posts in your classroom.

Thought 1: Why link this to a main blog?  This is one of several thinking devices posted as a link to the hear the yearsblog.  By linking to one parent blog, it serves as a way to organize clips for quick, easy access.

Thought 2: Why insert the video clips to a WordPress blog rather than just opening in DocuShare? The best reasons for connecting video files with WordPress are as follows:

  1. Provides a full screen option.
  2. Much, much faster to load than waiting for DocuShare.
  3. Allows for smooth presentation/organization; easy access for teachers to practice daily presenting blogs to students.
  4. Allows direct linking with DocuShare for saving and organizing  files.

Thought 3: Why not offer the student a chance to work independently and practice reading and writing skills?  In addition to inserting video clips, a brief description for discussion starters and such can be included.  Write the keyword search-this one is p2rm– on  the whiteboard.  Have students add a blog comment.  Example:  Tell your audience a short story about what you think happened in this clip.

Part II:  Teach the Student

Video Clip: Playing for Change – One Love

Discuss where the clip was filmed.  How do we know?  What are some of thoughts you have while watching this clip?  Why do you suppose this clip was filmed.  What was the author’s purpose?  To Inform?  To entertain?

Reflect on this clip when you open your laptop.
