November 8th: Bohr diagrams and More sound!

8th:  Continuing further into the nature of sound, we started in on what the Doppler Effect is.  Quiz Friday!!

November 7th: Nature of sound and The structure of atoms

8th: Today we worked through a piece on how sound interacts and how our ears detect and separate sounds.  We also watched this video called  “What is up with Noise?”

7th: Today we reviewed the first 18 elements and covered section 3.1 in the text on the structure of atoms!  Also, I showed the kids the Scale of the Universe!

November 6th: Singing crystal and the periodic table!

8th: Today we worked through the elements of sound after I showed the kids some singing crystal glasses.  We also worked with tuning forks and talked about how sound travels.

7th: Today we worked on memorizing the first 18 elements of the periodic table!!

November 5th: Guy Fawkes Day!!

8th: Today we started in on the nature of sound, section 2.1 in the text.  This week they are to create their own instrument out of safe, cheap materials.  Cardboard guitars, violins, harmonicas, percussion instruments, etc.  They should all have the ability to change pitch and loudness as well.  Due Friday.

7th: Today we started in on the periodic table.  They are to memorize the first 18 elements for Friday!  We will be working through the first 18 and where they fit into the chart all week long.

November 1: Wave interactions and chemistry lab!

8th: Today we reviewed more wave interactions and drew diagrams of each concept.

7th: TOday we worked through a cool little chem lab called Polishing Pennies.  Quizzes tomorrow!

October 31: Interaction of waves and more chemistry.

8th: Today we reviewed the interaction of waves in class and drew diagrams about each concept.  These need to be committed to memory!

7th: Today we reviewed the states of matter and worked through a discrepant event on how carbon dioxide is heavier than air.  Happy Halloween!

October 30: PLC day!

8th: Out for field trip.

7th: Today we went through the guided reading to section 2.1 in the text, pages 42-47.  They need to finish the packet if they didn’t get it done in class.

October 29: Interaction of Waves and Solids, Liquids and Gases.

8th: Today we started in on the interactions of waves.  It’s kind of complex and the kids have a few things to pay attention too or they might get lost.  We’ll revisit it after the field trip.

7th: Today we started comparing and contrasting solids, liquids and gases.  Homework for tomorrow!
