DSC_0233On Thursday, the children of childcare joined their parents in the adult classroom for seasonal festivities. Led by para Gabriella Letchipia, the families worked together to make banana ghosts and caramel apples while learning about the fall traditions of the cultures that make up LPS family literacy.

Arbol de Navidad 022On Thursday, the Family Literacy parents visited the childcare classroom to do a seasonal activity: make gingerbread houses! With their children or with the other family literacy parents, the students worked together to make gingerbread houses, using frosting, candies and graham crackers! The activity was a great and creative way to spend PACT (Parent and Child Together) Time during the normal adult literacy class.

Today, the students worked in their small groups. Working out of Ventures, the students each had their own assignment to read. The advanced group read a story about head lice in school. The students discussed the story, answered questions and worked together to relate the story to every-day life.

Today, the students worked in small groups. Working out of the Ventures book, the students each had different stories to read and questions to answer. The advanced group read a story about a student arriving late to school. Learning important school vocabulary, the students read the story, asked questions about vocabulary,  and answered comprehensions questions about the story.

Today, the Family Literacy Coordinator discussed the upcoming events at Prescott Elementary. The students practiced identifying classroom objects, the alphabet and numbers. At the end of the class, the students practiced phone dialogues and worked in partners. Together, the students created a dialogue about calling the school to report their child or children being sick.
