Valentine’s Day “Friendship Parties”
We are asking parents NOT to send any food in Valentines, so students can pay attention to the message of friendship in the cards.
Message from the LPS Wellness Director:
“Families: This year for Valentine’s Day we are asking parents to support our efforts in health and wellness – by only including non-food items with Valentines that their children bring. Our school aims to use more non-food items in our classrooms – for instance, instead of offering candy, rewarding children with a few extra minutes of recess – being first in line. We hope you will join us in this vision. Thanks for understanding that this new concept will help us to raise a new generation of healthier students with positive lifestyle habits that can last a lifetime.”

Principal Appraisal Process
This is my (Dr. B’s) formal evaluation year. All staff, 5th grade students, and randomly selected parents will receive an appraisal survey to complete about my (Dr. B’s) performance as principal, and to offer suggestions for improvement. The appraisal surveys are collected every 3 years as part of each principal’s evaluation.
The surveys will be sent to classified and certificated staff through School Messenger on Monday, February 3.
Random parent lists are generated by the ESU and the bilingual liaisons assist with anyone needing translations. The parents will also receive the survey through School Messenger.
The survey window will be open February 3-14, 2014.
Thank you for your input and suggestions! wb

Communication Research Opportunity
This is a follow-up email, requesting your participation in an online survey. If you have already completed this survey, please disregard this email.
Recent research suggests that email has rapidly become a primary mode of communication between parents and teachers at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels. The findings indicate that email communication between parents and teachers can lead students to experience more success and greater achievement in school. We intend to examine how parents and teachers can improve their communication to ultimately help students, whether that be via email or other modes of communication (face-to face, phone, and written communication). We believe it is important to remain on top of the latest communication technologies to fully understand how they influence student success and learning. We also want to examine the relationship between parent-teacher communication and the relationship between the parent and the child.
How can you help? We ask that you, as a parent, consider completing an online survey to help us better understand communication between parents and teachers and the parent-child relationship. Our research will be useful to parents, teachers, school administrators, school counselors/advisors, and students. We hope that you will participate to help us better understand the important role that communication plays in your child’s education.
To participate, we ask that you complete a brief online survey. It should take no more than 30 minutes of your time. You can access the survey by clicking on the following link or pasting it into your web browser: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7HW2NHX
Thank you very much for your participation!
