Randolph School Notes for December 20, 2013
Happy Birthday to Kathleen Gadeken on Dec. 23, Mary Harris on Dec. 24, Cari Lynn Wenstrand on Dec. 30, and Jill Tomes on Dec. 30!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you…to all of the wonderful families and staff who contributed 10 dollar grocery gift cards for distribution this week. We were able to put gift cards in ALL FIFTY SEVEN of our food back packs… and help many other families as well. Your generosity is heart warming, as usual. Happy Holidays everyone!!

LOVE and LOGIC MOMENT by Jim Fay
Following our recent snow storm, the service and product providers known as fathers were out trying to clear the walks and driveways. There was not a kid to be seen anywhere.
I commented to a neighbor that in the past, kids would be out with their shovels helping clear the snow. After that they would be off shoveling walks to earn money.
“Is that where your kids are?” I asked.
“No,” he answered. “Kids today aren’t that motivated.”
He blames today’s kids. Little does he know that parents are the ones who train kids to believe they are honored guests in the home, rather than contributing members of a family team.
Many tasks, like snow removal or yard work, are family jobs where kids can and should become part of the team. Kids should be helping in any way that is appropriate for their age. Even small kids can help prepare drinks or snacks to serve the ones who are doing the hard work. The last thing I want to see is a kid sleeping in or playing video games while their parents do these jobs alone.
To learn more about how to get your kids to do family contributions without complaining, listen to “Didn’t I Tell You To Take Out the Trash?!”.

Love and Logic Moment
The Most Beautiful Gift: Never-ending Love
Have you noticed how much effort some folks put into finding just the right Christmas gifts for their child? I bet you know someone who doesn’t think twice about spending endless hours – or even days – scouring store shelves for that awesome action figure, digital doodad, or doll their child has been wanting.
Let’s think about it. Is there anything wrong with this? What’s the problem with spending lots of time and energy looking for neat and nifty Christmas gifts for our kids?
Nothing. But…
What happens when we exert more energy on finding these gifts than showing our youngsters what a gift they are to us?
Ouch! I’ve done this. Yes, I’ve fallen into this trap! I’ve worn myself out trying to make things perfect and have forgotten the most perfect gift of all: the expression of never-ending, unconditional love.
We’re all wired to need it. All of us yearn for a relationship with someone who will love us forever, regardless of how stinky we behave. Isn’t this the greatest gift we can give our loved ones? Isn’t this what Christmas is really about?
During this Christmas season, my hope is that you’ll…
- Spend more time playing with your kids than you spend shopping for them.
- Remember that the gift they really yearn for is you.
- Hug them and smile into their eyes as often as possible.
- Show them through your never-ending love what a precious gift they are.
This holiday season, give the gift of Love and Logic. Enjoy less stress and have more fun with the kids in your life! Visit this page to take advantage of the Love and Logic Holiday Sale.
