Notes from the Great Expectations Team meeting on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013

Present:  Lisa C., Connie, Laura P., Megan, Jeanie, Kelly, Josh, Susie, Kiran, Wendy B.

Leadership:

1.  “I Wasn’t Trained to Do This”

Randolph will host this district BIST offering on Sat., March 2nd.

We have three free $60 registrations and will pay for more, if interested.

2.  BIST Vision Team Conference

LPS will host this annual conference for school teams on April 26-27.

Friday is a non-student day.  The conference is from 5-9:00 including dinner, and on Sat. from 8:30-4:00 including snacks and lunch.

The cost per person is $100.

Randolph received a PEF grant to pay for the registrations for all who attend.

Interested GET members please let Dr. B. know you want to participate.

This will get a jump start on (replace?) our summer day(s) together.

3.  Use of BIST Consultant Days:

Advantages:  scheduled opportunities to address implementation questions,

Chance to hone our practices, Available resources for specific concerns

Concerns:  Some take longer than 15 minutes; need more specificity to discussions

Plan: “First 15” timer will start when team assembled;

Dr. B. will offer conclusion to “first 15” and teachers decide to continue conversation or leave;

A sign up sheet will be posted in the staff room for teachers to sign up for Katie to observe specific students, conduct a class meeting, talk with the teacher, etc.  The after school time (3:45-4:30) will be available for individual or team consultations to follow up the specific observations/interactions scheduled earlier.

The next BIST Consult Day is Tuesday, Feb. 12th.

Schoolwide:

Fundraiser Assembly:

The main concern was the crowding.  With coats and backpacks and all the students, the gym was too crowded to allow for effective student management.

Concern expressed about the disrespect shown to administrators/teachers if doing something to them is the “prize”.

The exit plan worked well.  We will adapt this for use at all assemblies.

Other ideas for fundraiser time with students:

•split into two groups for presentation

•upper grades in a.m./ younger in p.m. at dismissal

•broadcast the presentation via inter-classroom television from the library?

•use the recess schedule for each grade’s presentation, but add

5-10 minutes to the recess schedule so students get some recess.

Non-classroom:

The no-parking promotion is underway.  Student Council representatives made yard signs for the D Street berm and signs to carry or attach to trees, indicating “No Parking”  “Kiss and Drive”  “Pull into the Curb”.

The Randolph traffic plan (designed by the City of Lincoln Traffic Department) will be reprinted and sent home to every family.

Classroom:

None at this time.

Individuals:

None at this time

Next meeting:
