SIP December 12, 2011

School Improvement Process (SIP) Agenda

December 12, 2011

Present:  Michelle, Karen, Keri, Sara, Kristin C., Randi, Trish, Rob, Annette
1.  Ask for comments about the Standards 4 and 5 rubrics.
(SIP members received these in their mailboxes tonight, 12/6/11, and have been asked to review them prior to the meeting, so they are familiar with the composite ratings.)

Media – Linda has extra duties that do not allow her to be available for lessons. With large class sizes, the entire media time is for checkout

Copy $ – a sad state – New math curriculum is hurting us – is there anyway we can get help from the district?  We teach kids to highlight and cross out answers, however on district assessments we can’t write in the book – 5th grade shared how they are having kids use the base 10 blocks to cover up incorrect answer choices

Technology – Kindergarten is using Ipads!

Data team is currently spending time discussing  equipment –

4.6 school provides support services to meet the physical, social, and emotional needs of the student population being served

  • Is our population changing enough to require a recovery room?
  • Do we need to vertical team to build relationships with families?
  • We make relationships with younger students coming to our class, but sometimes they switch to another teacher

In case people wonder what we’ll do with these standards ratings, let them know each will receive (electronically, I am attempting) a summary of the composites of the 5 standards, with a specific place for “action” ideas.

Action plan:

1. (4.5) Technology team would like to be more involved in the data and providing access for all teachers to use – possibilities of Google spreadsheets / Data System Coordination Counsel (Belmont great example)

2. (4.6) Clarifying what/why kids are moved to specific, next grade level classrooms after plans have been made – What trumps what? (Please see Bushaw if you have questions)
Dr. Dancer writes that in January schools will “cycle back through the standards, starting with #1 again”.  I would rather we invest a little time talking about the pieces we can control in our SIP efforts, and make some plans for those improvements.
2.  Invite Rob McEntarffer to talk about his assessment project.  He would like to talk with teachers about formative assessment– processes, products, timing, uses, etc.
We do NOT have a SIP meeting in January.  Next meeting is scheduled for February 13.
