I just read an article in the December 2007/January 2008 EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP titled The Best Value in Formative Assessment by Stephen Chappuis and Jan Chappuis.  It was written when teachers were first learning about formative and summative assessments.  After reading this article, I was thinking about how much I’ve learned in the past two years about formative assessments.  My children don’t go to school in this district and I don’t think all of their teachers are on the same page as I am regarding formative assessments.  Many of them still grade their formative assessments and use them in more of a summative manner.  My questions for you are… what kind of formative assessments do you do in your classroom and how do you “use” them to help you and your students?
