This will be another busy week!

In reading this week, we are continuing our work on the story “Julius.”  We will learn a new comprehension strategy for this story, the Monitor/Clarify strategy.  We will learn that when readers don’t understand what they are reading, they can go back and reread, read ahead, or look at the pictures to help with their comprehension.  Our phonics focus for the week will be the short vowels, a and i.  At the end of the week, we will talk about the long vowels, a and i.

During writer’s workshop, we are continuing to work on the “ideas” trait.  We will also talk more about personal narratives and narrowing our topics when we write.  We will continue to talk about sentence writing, focusing on “action words,” or, verbs this week.  We will also talk about why it is important to name yourself last when you are writing or speaking.

We are continuing to work on chapter 3 in math this week, which is our subtraction chapter.  Please continue to work on those basic addition and subtraction facts at home each night.
