Browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer use a cache to speed up the display of web pages by re-using elements that it has already downloaded. Sometimes this can cause a browser to continue to display old material long after the page has been updated. Here are some steps for different browsers to “clear the cache”.
Clearing Cache on Firefox – All Versions (Mac and Win)
- Hold down ctrl (win) or option (mac).
- While holding the key down, click the refresh icon (usually looks like an arrow making a circle) in your browser toolbar. Here are some examples of how it may look:
- Release ctrl or option.
Clearing Cache on Internet Explorer 7
- From the Tools select Internet Options on the menu bar.
- Choose the General tab.
- Under Browsing history, click Delete….
- Next to “Temporary Internet Files”, click Delete files….
- Click Close.
- Click OK.
Clearing Cache on Internet Explorer 6
- In Internet Explorer, select Tools, then Internet Options on the menu bar.
- Click the General tab.
- Click Delete Files.
- Select the checkbox labeled Delete all offline content.
- Click OK on the Delete Files dialog box.
- Click OK.
Clearing Cache on Safari 3
- In the Safari menu, go to Edit and select Empty Cache...
- Click the Empty button.
Opera 9
- In the Tools menu, click Delete private data .
- Click Details.
- Check the boxes beside “Delete all cookies” and “Delete entire cache.”
- Click Delete.
- Quit and restart the browser for the changes to take effect.
