Congratulations to 8th Grade Pound students, Haley Wooge (5th chair clarinet), Hannah Wooge (7th chair clarinet), and Eric Vander Woude (12th chair trumpet) for their performance in the 2014 NSBA 8th Grade All-State Band. They were chosen from over 400 auditions from 60 middle schools.

Thank-you to everyone that auditioned for Pound Jazz Band I last week. I was very impressed with the effort that everyone put into their preparation. This made some decisions very difficult. Congratulations to the students that will be our starting line-up. I am very excited about the potential of this group. Our excellence depends on commitment. Practices will be 7:00 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays and will begin Friday, Oct. 18. I know this is a lot to ask of middle school students and families but I hope you will find it a rewarding and worthwhile experience. Unexcused absences can’t be tolerated. There are students that didn’t make the group that would like your spot. I also hope that the students that didn’t get chosen will play in Jazz II second semester.

Jazz Band I Auditions will be held Sept. 23-27. I will have a sign up sheet of 5 min. time slots before and after school for those auditions. Music will be handed out this week (9/13) and links to those recordings are below. In addition, students will also be asked to play a chromatic scale. Results will be posted Monday, 9/30
Jazz Band I will rehearse Wed. and Fri. mornings at 7:00 and will begin Friday, 10/18. The success of this group is dependent on the commitment of it’s members. A strict attendance policy will be in place.
Jazz II is open to all instruments and will start second semester.

My Name is Scott Vicroy and I am thrilled to begin my 21st year of teaching at Pound Middle School. I come to Pound after 19 years at Culler Middle School. I will bring my passion for music and teaching to continue the tradition of musical excellence at Pound Middle School.
