All Students Will improve in the area of reading comprehension

Our reading curriculum has higher standards with increased rigor and pace.  This program has been divided into 6 units.  Each unit with a unique theme and a series of stories that link to that theme.  Each week students will have the opportunity to increase their reading and writing skills through 162 minutes of instruction dedicated to increasing ALL students’ ability to comprehend what is read.  Below you will find a quarter overview of topics covered.  You will also find spelling lists for each week.

New this year, our writing curriculum! Last year students would have written descriptive paragraphs during 1st Quarter.  There has been a shift to writing which more closely follows our reading curriculum.  Students are learning step by step how to write a topic sentence with supporting details to create a meaningful paragraph.
