KU Jazz Festival

On Friday, March 1 the Lincoln Southeast Jazz Ensemble I was selected as the Outstanding High School Jazz Ensemble at the 36th annual Kansas University Jazz Festival. This is the fourth year in a row that the group has received this reward. As a result of their selection, the band was invited to perform at the evening concert along with the Adjudicators All-Star Big Band and guest artist Bob Sheppard, a noted jazz saxophonist who has performed with numerous musicians and groups including Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Natalie Cole, James Taylor, Herbie Hancock, and Freddie Hubbard. Over 40 middle school, high school and college bands from Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska performed at the festival.
