Fifth grade students and their families enjoyed an evening of art-making last week. We made colorful foil relief sculptures with foam shapes, aluminum foil, and sharpies. Check them out!

Sheridan 4th and 5th Graders will be visiting the Sheldon Museum of Art next week!
Fourth Grade’s Beginner Tour features an introduction to art museums, museum manners, the Sheldon building and staff, and important objects in the collection. It includes historical background and fun conversations about a variety of art works. Fifth Grade’s Permanent Collection Tour explores the current exhibition of works from Sheldon’s permanent collection, focusing particularly on paintings and works on paper. Volunteer docents lead small groups to showcase a variety of artworks.
Students have been preparing for their visit through discussions of the purpose of museums and our expectations while there. If you have any questions about your child’s visit, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher, Mrs. Mohr or the Sheldon.
If you have the chance ask your student about their favorite piece of art, an important fact that they learned while visiting the Sheldon, or which art trading card is their favorite. An amazing follow-up activity for this learning experience is to have your child be your docent on a family visit to the Sheldon!
Join us this upcoming Friday, January 20th in the Dining Room from 6-7 pm for a fun family art activity. Current fifth-graders and their families are invited to attend and should have received registration forms in Friday folders. Please fill out and return these forms to me or the office by Tuesday, January 17th Wednesday, January 18th so I can prepare materials for everyone.
I hope to see you there!
Our shipment from Art to Remember was delayed- order forms will go home in Friday folders Friday, October 7!
Please complete these order forms and send them back to school by Thursday, October 13 (before fall break).
We hope to have your items to you before winter break.
Thank you for your support!
Fifth Graders designed and created our school’s banner for LPS’s Elementary Banner Display this year. Students submitted proposals complete with sketches and descriptions of their ideas. Students were asked to think of designs that displayed school spirit (Sheridan sharks, school motto, etc.), this year’s theme (“Small actions make a big difference”), or art (What does art mean to you?).
I then chose four that were most complete and representative of the “big ideas” submitted. Students voted for their favorite design. I combined the two most popular into our Final Design that students used to plan the banner.
Students took turns drawing and painting the banner- a truly collaborative effort!
Banners are collected and displayed throughout the community for two years before returning to Sheridan. Here is the schedule for our banner’s display. I hope you have the chance to check it out!
