Family Fun, 5th Grade Style

This spring our Fifth Grade families had the opportunity to come together for an evening of art-making and fun. Students used stencils, fabric paint, and new brush techniques to design and decorate canvas tote bags.

Each one became a unique and useful piece!

Artwork in the Community

Each year LPS partners with local businesses to display elementary artwork. Called VIP (Ventures in Partnership), this program allows artwork from five students in each elementary school to be matted, framed, and displayed in the community.

This year’s artists and artworks include:

Artworks will start their year-long journey at the District Office where students will be recognized at an Artist Reception later in the spring. Congratulations Young Artists!

Community Art Banner

Fifth Graders designed and created our school’s banner for LPS’s Elementary Banner Display this year. Students submitted proposals complete with sketches and descriptions of their ideas. Students were asked to think of designs that displayed school spirit (Sheridan sharks, school motto, etc.), this year’s theme (“Small actions make a big difference”), or art (What does art mean to you?).

I then chose four that were most complete and representative of the “big ideas” submitted. Students voted for their favorite design. I combined the two most popular into our Final Design that students used to plan the banner.

Students took turns drawing and painting the banner- a truly collaborative effort!

Banners are collected and displayed throughout the community for two years before returning to Sheridan. Here is the schedule for our banner’s display. I hope you have the chance to check it out!
