Writing Prompt
Recently Lincoln Public Schools is considering making a change to their open campus policy for Juniors and Seniors throughout the district. They are considering restricting students to campus during lunch in an effort to encourage healthier eating, safer roads near high schools and fewer tardies and truancies after lunch. Choose a position on this issue, and present your reasoning as to why the school board should adopt a closed campus or continue with their present open campus policy. Then write a letter to the school board that would share your position and the things that you would like the board to consider. This will be turned in at the end of class today. (This is a fictional scenario.)
Tomorrow we will be going to the Media Center to check out non-fiction books for this class. Try to choose a book that deals with some sort of issue that you are interested in: meta data and its use, violence, abuse, drug/alcohol abuse, bullying, autism, warfare, and so on. If you already have such a book at home, then bring it tomorrow.
