Philosophy
Golf is a game that produces character, sportsmanship and perseverance – characteristics we hope to develop and instill in every player while maintaining the high standard of LSE athletics.

Expectations for Golfers
We expect all golfers on the team to represent LSE in a positive way. Golfers should:
Be a student first and abide by LSE athletic academic standards: To be eligible for participation on a varsity team a student must have passed 20 hours in the preceding semester and be passing at least 20 hours in the current semester. Grade and attendance checks are made weekly by the athletic department. If there are any F’s on a grade report, a student will most likely be given a set amount of time to bring that grade up. If a student does not show improvement, she will likely miss the next tournament and will remain ineligible until she provides proof that she is passing the class(es). Because of golf meets, a golfer could miss quite a few days of school (especially Varsity), and it is easy to fall behind. Make sure that she contacts her teachers about getting assignments when absent. We excuse all golf related absences with the attendance office. If he must make up schoolwork because of an absence due to a golf tournament, that is ok. Make sure she lets the coaches know, and have her try to make up work during off periods or study hall so she doesn’t miss practice.
Be to practice on time
Be at practice with the intent of getting better every day
Be respectful. Players are expected to conduct themselves in a fashion that will provide representation for themselves, their family, and Southeast. This expectation applies on and off the course. Swearing and loss of self-control will not be tolerated. Players are expected to leave the course in better condition than they find it, and be courteous and respectful to all people they have contact with during the season. Treat people the way you want to be treated!
Maintain the integrity of the game
Abide by the LPS Extracurricular Activities Code of Conduct.
Failure to meet these expectations may result in the following consequences which may include, but are not limited to, suspension from practices or golf meets.

Expectations for Parents
Golf has been classified throughout the years as a mental game. If your daughter is picking up an negativity from you or other sources, it often translates into their golf game. Your daughter will assume some pressure and stress when she competes, please help her handle that pressure and stress by positively supporting her and the entire team.

As a spectator on the golf course:
Follow (or lead) at least 50 feet or more from the players (not in the fairway)
Do not give any advice. This can result in disqualification
You may help them spot a ball
Be positive and cheer if the situation calls for it. Show your confidence in a player’s ability to recover from a bad shot.

Daily In- Season Practice Schedule
Being a member of the JV/Varsity golf team takes time and commitment. Players are expected to be at each practice and on time.
Practices will be held at Holmes Golf Course (unless otherwise posted) and will begin at 3:30. Those without an 8th period might start earlier.
Practices will generally run until 5:30 or 6:00 (depending on if we are playing 9 holes).
Practice schedules will be posted weekly on Google Classroom.

Players are encouraged to play and practice on their own on the weekends! We do not get course practice time on the weekends so unless we make special arrangements, we will not meet as a team on the weekends. Varsity team members will play upcoming courses on some Saturdays as needed, but otherwise players are on their own. Even chipping and putting for 30-45 minutes helps!

Absences from Practice
All golfers are required to communicate with coaches about absences for practice or tournaments prior to the absence. Notify either coach in person, written note, or email. Players may not participate in competitions if they are excessively late for practice or miss practice for outside activities. We will work with the players on an individual basis if there are any previous commitments that must be fulfilled.

If a golfer is out of school for the day and will not make practice, please notify Coach Graff and Coach Schlegelmilch in advance by e-mailing to jgraff2@lps.org, jschleg@lps.org, or calling the Southeast athletic office at 436-1359. A player may not practice or play in an event if she misses school that day, even just one period of the day: exceptions are doctor/dentist appointments, funerals, or other school-sponsored events and other individual situations that might arise. It is important to us that we hear directly from the golfer or parent.

Tryout Information
You must be on the participation list before you can tryout. To be on the participation list you must complete the packet from the LSE athletic office, including your physical. Make sure forms are signed and returned to the athletic office before we start practicing.
Tryouts begin Monday, August 6th.
We will keep up to 15 golfers.
Tryout rounds will be 9 hole rounds.
Honesty and integrity are a big part of golf. If there is any dishonesty it will quickly end your chance to make a team. All tournament rules are in effect for tryouts.
The team selections will be based on the scores of the tryout days and coaches’ decision.
Qualifying rounds will be held at the beginning of the year and throughout the year to establish which players are on varsity and JV. However, these teams can consider other factors such as grades, unexcused absences, coaches’ discretion.

Varsity Letters
To be considered for a varsity letter, a player must complete the season as a member of the team. A varsity letter may be earned by:
Play in 3 or more varsity matches
Medal in any varsity match
Play in the state tournament
Coaches’ discretion
