All About Mrs. Wiens

I have always known that I would be a teacher. In fact, my kindergarten report card said, “Andrea spends more time helping her peers than doing her own work”. I always liked school, but definitely didn’t always like math class; it was hard! It wasn’t until high school that I realized how much I enjoyed math. I had two teachers that taught me in a way so that I could understand math and that it could be fun in the process! I knew then that I wanted my students to have that same experience.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Middle Level Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University in the spring of 2002 and started teaching at Lux in the fall of 2003. I have been teaching at Lux for ten years now.

While in college, I met my husband, Dana, and we got married in June 2002. We lived in Hastings, Nebraska and Owatonna, Minnesota before coming back to Lincoln in 2003.

In 2007, I earned my master’s degree in Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education with an emphasis on middle level mathematics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln through the Math in the Middle Program.

Along the way, we had three wonderful children: Madison, Parker, and Kyndra. We built a house in Hickman and have been living there for the last seven years. Kyndra is a kindergartner, Parker is a fourth-grader, and Madison is a sixth-grader at Norris Schools.

In the little amount of spare time that I have, I enjoy spending it reading books, watching movies, exercising, and spending time with my family. We are VERY enthusiastic Husker fans and try to go to as many football and volleyball games as possible each season. GO BIG RED!
