Curriculum Overview

Our first grade team strives to give your children the best educational experience possible. We spend countless hours planning, preparing, teaching, and reflecting to provide high quality education.

It is important for families to know what we are doing at school so you can get involved in your child’s education at home. Visit this page each week for an overview of the curriculum. Remember to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions, concerns, or need ideas for working with your student at home.

 Reading

The first three weeks of school, we will focus on reviewing and establishing routines and procedures. It is important to build a strong foundation for a successful school year!

Math

Students will be assigned homework almost every day and are expected to return the assignment the next day. Each assignment should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Here are some suggestions to make homework an enjoyable experience:

* Provide homework support, but do not take over. Homework is meant to allow students to practice concepts taught in class.

* We teach our students that a variety of solution methods are acceptable. There are lots of different ways to reach an answer!

* A little frustration on homework is healthy (it means that the work is challenging) but if the frustration becomes excessive and overly stressful, take a break and try again later OR stop and write a note on it so we know your student is struggling.
