Art Fair!

The annual Art Fair is approaching!

Students will display 2D and 3D artwork in the gym from 5:30- 7:30 on April 27th. There will be craft stations, food, a silent auction, and musical performances. Join us for a great evening as we celebrate art in our community!

5th Grade Family Fun

Fifth grade students and their families enjoyed an evening of art-making last week. We made colorful foil relief sculptures with foam shapes, aluminum foil, and sharpies. Check them out!

Sheldon Field Trips

Sheridan 4th and 5th Graders will be visiting the Sheldon Museum of Art next week!

Fourth Grade’s Beginner Tour features an introduction to art museums, museum manners, the Sheldon building and staff, and important objects in the collection. It includes historical background and fun conversations about a variety of art works. Fifth Grade’s Permanent Collection Tour explores the current exhibition of works from Sheldon’s permanent collection, focusing particularly on paintings and works on paper. Volunteer docents lead small groups to showcase a variety of artworks.

Students have been preparing for their visit through discussions of the purpose of museums and our expectations while there. If you have any questions about your child’s visit, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher, Mrs. Mohr or the Sheldon.

If you have the chance ask your student about their favorite piece of art, an important fact that they learned while visiting the Sheldon, or which art trading card is their favorite. An amazing follow-up activity for this learning experience is to have your child be your docent on a family visit to the Sheldon!

Doodle 4 Google

It’s time again for Google’s annual contest!

Students in grades K-12 are invited to take part in the 2016 Doodle 4 Google contest, and create a doodle that tells the world “What I see for the future.” From crayons to clay, graphic design, or even food, young artists can utilize any materials to bring their creation to life. Like all Google Doodles, each doodle must incorporate the letters G-o-o-g-l-e. One national winner will also receive a $30,000 college scholarship. The contest is open for entries from September 14, 2016 to December 2, 2016.

Ask Mrs. Mohr for an entry form or check out their website!

Munch on Lunch & Play with Clay

This year students entered a Fun Night raffle for special experiences with teachers. Our three winners of the “Munch on Lunch & Play with Clay” with Mrs. Mohr met to enjoy conversation and making a special clay “treat” after looking at the artwork of Wayne Thiebaud.

Look at the delicious masterpieces they created!
