Good morning! Hope you enjoyed your cold day off.

Grades are updated on Synergy. I’m going to conference with you individually over the next couple of days to look at what you did well in your Partner Introduction and what you need to work on for future speeches.

Today you should have your Storytelling Diagram finished. You should begin writing out your speech using the Storytelling Draft in Google Classroom.

The First Draft of your Storytelling Speech will be due on Monday, Feb. 4th.

Friday, Jan. 18, 2019

We will begin giving speeches today! Below is the list of speakers in order. Remember that you should always be prepared to speak on the first day of speeches, even if you are farther down the list, because if someone is absent, we will continue down the list to the next speaker.

Audience Members: Remember that you are also being evaluated on your behavior as an audience member. This may affect your grade.

We should be looking at the speaker (not on our phones or on the computer or doing homework) and giving good reactions (head nods, etc.). Please also be sure to stay quiet during speeches, so we don’t distract the speakers.

We will get through as many speeches as we can today, and we will finish up on Tuesday (Monday is Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, so there’s no school).

Good morning/afternoon.

Today we’re going to begin workin on the Partner Introduction speech by starting to interview our partners. I have assigned you a partner (below). Use time today to interview each other (you may work in the room or out in the hall – quietly) and TAKE NOTES. Do NOT give your partner the paper to write down answers. Have a conversation. Find good stories to tell us about your partner. Your speech needs to be 2-2 1/2 minutes.

LISTEN to your partner, and remember to ask FOLLOW-UP questions: Why? Tell me more about that, etc.
Here is another link to page with some great questions.

On Monday, we’ll begin outlining the interview and begin drafting.

Here is a list of partners:

Good Morning/Afternoon.

Juniors, you will be going to the Ted Sorensen Theatre this period for a grade-level assembly. You’ll be dismissed over sound.

Today we’re going to go over the Course Description and talk about what kinds of things we’ll be doing this semester.

We’ll also talk more specifically about our first speech, the Partner Introduction, and we’ll pick partners. Tomorrow, we’ll begin interviewing each other.

Good morning!

Today we’re going to discuss Classroom Expectations. I know you’re excited about this.

Most of my rules and expectations are probably similar to other teachers’, but some are particular to this class. We’ll go over them today, and if you have any questions, be sure to ask or email me later.

If we have time, we may talk about the course outline and discuss your first speech, which will be coming up soon.

Good morning! Welcome to Mr. Keller’s Oral Communication class.

This blog page will have all the information you need for this class. I will try to keep it as updated as possible so you always know what to expect. It will include notes, assignments, important dates, and announcements.

We will generally start every day by looking at the day’s post. Please Bookmark this site in your browser, and check here if you are absent to find out about information or assignments that you may have missed. If you need to access it directly from another computer, the URL is: wp.lps.org/lhsoralcom

For the next couple of days we’re going to spend some time getting to know each other. I’m going to ask you to fill out some forms online and share some information about yourself. Please answer the questions honestly, and completely, and with as much detail as possible. The information won’t be shared with anyone else. It’s just a way for me to get to know some things about you that will help me to be a better teacher for you.  I will also be sharing some information about myself.

We’re also going to be discussing the course and what you can expect this semester. I will post new information, assignments, etc., on this blog regularly. If you are absent, check to see what you missed. All assignments will also be posted here, so you can always check to see what you should be working on and what’s coming up.

Later we will discuss Classroom Expectations, but for today, I want you to know about two rules to keep in mind from the beginning:

1. Cell Phones are not allowed at any time during class. Please do not have them out or even visible during class.

2. Food and Drinks are also not allowed in class at any time. You may leave items on the desk by the door, but please do not have anything out in the rest of the room.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Today, I’d like you to click on the links below (in the order that they appear) and follow the instructions for each form.

1. First is the Student Profile form. It’s basic information about you. Some of this is on Synergy, but it helps me to have it all in one place. You can see instructions for this in Google Classroom.

To join the classes, use this code:
Period 5: grbso9
Period 8: v2z51l  (The last letter is a lowercase ‘L’)

4. Next are the Personal Histories Questions. These are questions about you (likes, dislikes, etc.) that will tell me some things about you that I might not know through the course of the semester. This is a great place to tell me things that you think I should know about you. Again, it won’t be shared with anyone, so please be honest.
These questions are also in Google Classroom

When we get done with those, we’ll talk more specifically about the course and what to expect. If you have questions before we get to that point, feel free to let me know.

You can also subscribe to this page, so that whenever I post something new, you’ll get an email message. Click in the box to the right marked: Follow Blog via Email

Enter your email address to follow this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email.

And remember that you can always send me an email at gkeller@lps.org if you have questions or concerns.

Thanks, and have a great semester!
