School Improvement Process Committee Meeting Notes from February 10, 2014

Present: Rob, Kelly, Laura O., Makala, Kristin C., Megan, Trish, Karen D., Keri, Alesia, Wendy B.

1. PLC Data Team Goals Posted:

At each month’s PLC time, the targeted learning goals are set for the next 4 weeks (approximately). Teams describe the specific instructional strategies for each of the levels of students striving to meet those goals. (Above- On- and Below- grade level.)

The goal for reading and the goal for math will be posted in the main hallway following the PLC time. As soon as the post-test data has been gathered, the goal sheets for each grade are updated on the hallway board.

The instructional goals posted in our hallway publicize to parents and community members what the reading and mathematics challenges for the next teaching period are, AND show how well our students are reaching those goals.

Questions? Please see Dr. B.

** Rob offered this information from district library:

“Below is the note from my mom (a.k.a Guy’s grandmother ) that I read at the end of the meeting. I know she’d like to help with book resources – feel free to email her! (emcentar@lps.org) “We have a selection of high interest nonfiction books that ELL have used and are on a Lexile reading level of 450-700’s – available for checkout. There might also be some fiction possibilities in our preview books.  If they want to let me know a reading range – I’ll see what we can do.”

Thanks, Rob!

The reason we have additional resources for the 2014-15 school year is LPS’ Federal Programs will include Randolph in the Title 1 resources. Beginning next school year, Randolph will be a “targeted assistance” school, planning for whole school participation in Title 1 resources. Targeted means we will provide additional resources for the students and families deemed “at risk” of failure. That risk could be academic, behavioral, or social/emotional needs.

SIP Representatives’ Tasks:

1. Update PLC goal board with results and next focus—monthly around PLC time or asap.

2. Brainstorm “how to use additional resources” with team members. Relay ideas to Dr. B.

Next SIP meeting = March 17th
