We will cover 8 units in the text ¡AVANCEMOS!, Level 3.

Each unit contains 2 lessons and we will spend approximately 2-3 weeks on each followed by a quiz or other assessment. At the end of the lesson, there will be a test, project or a combination of the two.

A final exam will be given at the end of each semester. A grade of a C or better is highly recommended for success at the next level.

Spanish 4 students will consistently demonstrate that they are achieving the course goals in daily achievement, unit/chapter achievement and semester/year achievement.

  • Daily: Students and teacher will use Spanish as the language of communication the majority of the time (grammar and other points may be explained in English). Students are expected to use mostly Spanish in the classroom.
  • Formative assessments: Formative assessments will include daily use of Spanish in the classroom, and completed homework and classwork.
  • Summative assessments: A variety of summative assessments will be given for each chapter, and include (but are not limited to) quizzes, tests, projects and presentations. All courses will include a semester final that will comprise roughly 15-20% of the student’s overall grade, depending on the progress of the individual class, and can vary from year to year.

You will be instructed when to use your Chromebook. All other electronic devices must be turned off and out of sight at all times when you are in the classroom.

  1. Be kind! – Help others, don’t interrupt (especially during instruction), and pick up after yourself. Treat everyone with respect and kindness.
  2. Participate!¡Habla español! Do all the activities to the best of your ability. You can do it!
  3. Be on time!We follow the LSE tardy policy. When you’re late, you miss out on what we do in class and you disrupt others.
  4. Be ready!Bring your Chromebook, binder or notebook, handouts, and a pencil or pen. Sometimes I’ll ask you to use a textbook too. Please be seated and have your materials on your desk by the time the bell rings. Read the outline on the overhead screen and get started on the day’s work while Señora is taking attendance.

Homework needs to be completed by the beginning of class. Late work receives 60% credit, or 50% if it’s turned in after the chapter test. Work is not accepted for a grade once the quarter marking period is over. Retakes are an option for students who do all their work on time.

If you are absent, it’s your responsibility to find out what you need to make up and complete work missed within one week. You can find assignments posted on this web site and in our classroom “Ausencias” binder.
