    Today is the last day for Hearts for Africa Valentines goodies sale. We still have lots of everything left…and smencils and freshly-baked cookies are discounted!

    Due to after school scheduling conflicts, the Sing and Swing Choir will rehearse on Thursday mornings this week and next week, Feb. 17th and 24th.  We will practice from 7:25 a.m. until the bell rings at 7:53.  You are excused from these two rehearsals if you already have morning commitments to attend.                     Mrs. Cook

    Congratulations to the following students from the 6th, 7th and 8th grades that are this week’s “Spotlight Students”! Each week Pound is recognizing a student from each team who is making a positive difference.  This is our way of acknowledging their hard work and positive influence in our school.  This week’s honorees are:

    7th grade     Lauren Nunez and Madison Kraus
    8th grade     Logan Keitges and Addie Mortensen
    Congratulations!!! This week they have “front of the line” privileges, free pop corn on Popcorn Wednesday and other cool recognitions. Give your best effort and show kindness to others and you might be the next “Spotlight Student!”

    8TH GRADE

    LSE has invited all incoming eighth graders to the home games this week.  On Thursday, the girls host Norfolk at 5:45 and 7:30 and on Friday, the boys host Northeast at 5:45 and 7:30.  Go to the games – Wear black and gold – Cheer for the Knights, and show good sportsmanship!

    October 2011 – make plans to travel to Japan with a group from Lux Middle School to visit the sites of Hiroshima, Kyoto, Kamakura, Tokyo and our sister school at Chiba, Japan.  Dates for the trip are October 15th – 24th.  Please contact either Kathi Mercure at kmercure@lps.org or Dru Sypal at dsypal@lps.org for more information.

    8TH GRADE

    These 10 students competed last night in the 4th Annual MathCounts Competition for the opportunity to represent Pound Middle School at the Southeast Nebraska Regional Contest: 7th graders Ryley Thomas and Hailey Bottoms, and 8th graders August Flachsbart, Shawn Jewell, Susan Ozanne. Winning the competition was Kylee Yakel. Chris Jurich placed 2nd, Brandon Warren earned 3rd place, Easton Bornemeier was 4th place, and Hanna Savidge placed as 1st alternate.     Varsity Basketball action this week – LSE boys and girls at East TODAY; Papillion LaVista at LSE (boys and girls) tomorrow.

    Purchase your Pound yearbook in person before/after school on Mondays and Wednesdays for $20.  If you don’t want the hassle of bringing cash or a check to school you can always make your purchase online by using the link from Pound’s homepage.
